The Love Red is a blend of 77% Carignan, 15% Valdiguié and 8% Syrah. The grapes are harvested early to highlight the fruit and preserve the acidity. The Carignan is a combination of whole cluster and destemmed fruit from four 70 year-old dry farmed vineyards. The Valdiguié and Syrah were whole cluster. The wine was aged in a combination of neutral French oak barrels and concrete tanks. The grapes come from 70+ year-old vines in Solano County’s Green Valley and Mendocino County. The Solano County Green Valley vineyards practice non-certified organic farming. The Mendocino vineyards are both dry farmed and practice certified organic farming. The wines are made using spontaneous fermentation, a process that uses native yeasts and bacteria that exist on the grapes in order to make wine. Nothing is added – this includes nutrients, yeast, bacteria, enzymes, tannins or other popular fermentation agents. Sulphur is a naturally occurring element in all wine, the amount found can vary. Made to be light and quaffable, it's a delicious thirst quencher. Even better when it's slightly chilled. This wine is light bodied with aromas and flavors of fresh cherry and cranberry, as well as a bit of clay, lavender, and a hint of tobacco. It's sophisticated without being fussy—try pairing it with a simple, classic dish like roast chicken, ratatouille or a good cut of meat on the grill.
