VignaPetrussa_Refosco

Red 1 – 2018 Vigna Petrussa Refosco Red Wine, Friuli-Venezia Giuila, Italy
100% Refosco del peduncolo rosso

Vigna Petrussa is a certified sustainable and biodiverse women-owned winery. Lauded as “one of Italy’s best and most under the radar estates” by Ian D’Agata.  He has praised the winery, proclaiming Vigna Petrussa wine grower-maker, Hilde Petrussa, as a woman with “great passion for her craft.” Like a cook in the kitchen, Hilde gives a special touch to each wine. With her Refosco, after gathering the grapes, she lets the tannins mellow out by air drying the grapes for about 20 days before starting the fermenting process.

A deep purplish red hue, the bouquet recalls dry summer hay and red berries jam. On the palate it is round with soft tannins and underbrush hints.

Food pairings: Roast pork and carnitas dishes, cured meats, lamb kebabs

MaestroScheidt_Dolcetto

Red 2 – 2021 Maestro Schiedt Dolcetto, Lake County, California
100% Dolcetto

Dolcetto hails from the famed Italian region of Piedmont, where the Nebbiolo grape gets all the attention. The name means “little sweet one,” a translation that doesn’t refer to the sugar content, but rather is an endearing moniker for this much loved yet lesser-known variety. It’s a joyful red that is fresh and generous, the kind of wine that demands to be shared with friends.

Winemaker Notes: "I made this one from the small, Rosa D'oro Vineyard in the Kelsey Bench area of Lake County. 100% neutral oak, crisp acidity and a core of red fruit."

Food pairings: Home-cooked, casual favorites like lasagne, eggplant parmigiana or spaghetti & meatballs

Vincent_PinotGrisRouge

Red 2 – 2022 Vincent Pinot Gris, Willamette Valley, Oregon
Organic / Natural
100% Pinot Gris

Owner/winemaker Vincent Fritzsche launched the winery in 2009 after years of apprenticing in wineries in Oregon and California. He's all about low-input wine making, working with several sustainably-farmed vineyards around the Willamette Valley to produce small amounts of handmade wine without a lot of fuss.

This unique wine is their take on a skin-contact red made from the darkly pigmented Pinot Gris grape. Vincent explains: "Instead of white or rose, we went all in to create a red wine from Pinot Gris, what we dub the Gris Noir. It’s still light in color but darker than the pinkish hue of most rose. Close your eyes though and you’d think you were drinking a red wine, with a peppery berry flavor and a solid amount of fine tannin".

Food pairings: Charcuterie and cheese, roast veggies, barbecue
