Rebolledo_Mencia

Red 1 – 2020 Joaquin Rebolledo Mencía, Valdeorras, Spain
100% Mencía

With a goal to preserve and restructure old vineyards of native varietals, Rebolledo has pioneered the story of viticulture in Galicia. His choice to graft with Godello and Mencia was at first seen as a risky bet, but now offers him international acclaim. Tradition is strong at the winery and every barrel is transported to a 2-century old cave “La Mina” where they are let to rest surrounded by mineral aromas. Nowadays, the estate includes almost 100 acres of vineyards planted over slate, granite and sand in steep slopes following the Sil river.

The Mencía is a young wine that amazes with its cherry color covered with purple rim, its aroma of cherry, blackberry and raspberry with with lively notes of cocoa, chalk and slate.

Food pairings: Italian and Mediterranean food, gratins, roasts, stews and cod in all its forms.

Cappuccina_CampoBuri_Carmenere

Red 2 – 2016 La Cappuccina 'Campo Buri' Carmenere-Oselata, Veneto, Italy
Certified Organic
90% Carmenere, 10% Oselata

Since 1890, the Tessari family has been making wine at its La Cappuccina estate at Costalunga di Monteforte d’Alpone, in the Soave d.o.c. wine zone to the east of Verona. The property takes its name from the artfully restored 16th century chapel, annexed to Villa BuriTessari – where Capuchin friars once worshipped.

This unique wine is mostly Carmenère, making it a rarity in an Italian context, and it doubles down on the intrigue by adding a splash of the even-rarer indigenous grape Oseleta. Saved from extinction in the 1980s, Oseleta adds colour and tannin to this complex, refined, appealing wine, with its notes of dark berry, pepper spice, clove and vanilla. An Uncorked Staff Favorite!

Food pairing: Roast leg of lamb, grilled meats, veal, sausages, wild mushrooms
