For Jamey Whetstone, it all started with a passion to produce single varietals that are vibrant and fresh, from carefully sourced vineyard sites. McGah_Kale_RedBlend

Red 2 – 2016 Kale Wines Heritage 'McGah Vineyard' Red Blend, Rutherford, Napa Valley
84% Grenache, 16% Mourvédre

McGah Family Vineyards encompasses 65 acres in Rutherford near the Silverado Trail. Being on the east side of the valley, there is intense exposure that yields ripe and concentrated fruit. The area is hallowed ground for Cabernet Sauvignon and generally growers in the area are not interested in planting unexpected varieties for economic reasons. The McGah family is an exception to the norm, and Kale Wines are allocated rows with clones of Grenache (515, Tablas D) and Mourvédre. It is slightly sloping benchland, so the soil is well drained with classic Rutherford red, dusty soil.

Baking spice, marmalade and rich cherry pie layer the mouthfeel. Ripe fig, tobacco leaf, and a slightly smoked meat quality in the finish. Round and supple, with velvety tannins. Good structure should reward aging through 2030.

Food Pairing: Beef short ribs, pork shoulder, goulash, braises & stews. Smoked cheeses.

Bubbles 1 – Casa Belfi Naturalmente Frizzante Bianco, Veneto, Italy
Organic, Biodynamic
100% Glera

Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts with no added sulphites. The yeasts are kept afloat (battonage). According to old tradition, in spring the wine completes the alcoholic fermentation in the bottle where residual sugars are transformed by its own yeasts into alcohol and carbon dioxide, obtaining a natural sparkling wine.

Flowery and fruity scents are accompanied by notes of citrus, yeast and bread crust. It is lively on the palate with a perfectly balanced acidity. The yeast deposited on the bottom of the bottle adds softness and increases its longevity.

Analemma_Tinto

Red 2 – NV Analemma Tinto, Mosier Hills Estate, Columbia Valley, Washington
Biodynamic

Winemaker Notes: While designed to include all of the red varietals we grow on our estate, this multi-vintage expression emphasizes the character of Cabernet Sauvignon. Leading with classic aromatics of herbs and red fruits, this blend reveals notes of cedar and petrichor on the palate alongside distinct tannins. Elements of this blend were co-fermented while others were picked and processed seperately with partial whole cluster fermentation. Aged on lees in various sized nuetral puncheons, this wine is comprised of barrels that were reserved in the cellar for up to three vintages. The result is an expression of extended élevage and deepening of character in the wine that only comes from time.

Food Pairings: Enjoy it in your glass first and then decide!

TributeToGrace_GrenacheBlanc

White – 2021 A Tribute To Grace Grenache Blanc, Thompson Vineyard, Los Alamos
100% Grenache Blanc

Winemaker Notes: In 2021 we made our fourth vintage from Thompson Vineyard in Los Alamos ~ continuing with the divine own-rooted vines that have represented our sole Blanc since 2018. We chose again to harvest on the earlier side, to capture the jasmine and bitter almond paradigm that can lift this variety into the sublime. Gently whole-cluster pressed to tank, settling for one sleep, before being racked to a combination of neutral barrique and stainless steel barrels for fermentation. The wine remained on gross lees for an 11 month élevage, to increase both complexity and bring the minerality jasmine-bound.

Food Pairings: Greek-style garlic lemon chicken, Softer creamy cheeses like Brie or hard nutty cheeses like Comté
