Betwixt_Chardonnay

White 1 – 2018 Betwixt Chardonnay, R Bar R Ranch, Santa Cruz Mountains
100% Chardonnay

Winemaker Notes: On the Pacific side of the Santa Cruz Mountains, the R Bar R Ranch vineyard sits high above the towns of Watsonville and Santa Cruz at an elevation of around 1500 ft. We love this site but it is really on the edge for growing grapes as it is a very cool and wet site, totally exposed to the weather coming off the Pacific Ocean. As a result we are not always able to get fruit from the vineyard, but when we do the acidity is electric.

Native fermentation, then aged 17 months in used French oak, this wine is unfined and unfiltered. A beautiful golden color, it is lean with bright acidity. Lemon curd and toasted almonds characterize this Chardonnay.

Food Pairing: Seafood, cream sauces, rotisserie chicken, soft, rich cheeses like Brie

The best expression of the Piedmont region, this Nebbiolo is garnet-red in color, and shows an incredible variety of aromas due to the grape’s natural characteristics and long aging period. Velvety, with great structure and big tannins, that smooth out during the aging process. “Simposio” refers to a “meeting” (blending) of grapes from different vineyards close to the winery. Vineyards are all located in the west side of the Barolo area (Verduno, La Morra and Novello).

Consulting winemaker Susan Evans has a passion for Viognier. The name is a nod to Dalmatia, Viognier's storied place of origin although Viognier’s fame originated in the tiny appellations of Condrieu and Chateau Grillet located in the Northern Rhone region of France. Today, California is the largest producer of Viognier, with approximately 2,600 acres planted statewide.

PatrickClergt_HautsCotesDeNuits

Pinot 2 – 2019 Patrick Clerget 'Dames Huguettes' Hautes-Cotes-de-Nuits, Burgundy, France
100% Pinot Noir

Negociant Patrick Clerget looks for hidden treasures. He selects high quality wines from family estates that are sampled and approved by their in-house team of specialized wine tasters and oenologists. The first distinctive feature of the Dames Huguettes vineyard is that it is 50 years old and naturally produces few grapes. Surrounded by walls, the grapes always reach full maturity. Furthermore, the vines produce very small bunches of Pinot Noir grapes with very thick skins, which guarantees superb concentration of the wine that is made with them. Vine growing techniques are also very particular: limited yields due to severe de-budding, green harvest if needed, working of the soil, no or infrequent use of fertilizers, environmentally friendly pest management, respecting beneficial wildlife.

Intense aromas of fresh red fruits, dried roses and black pepper.

Food pairing: French classics like Julia Child's Coq au Vin or Beef Bourguignon

BUBBLES CLUB

EmileParis_ChampagneBrut

Bubbles 1 – Champagne Emile Paris Reserve Brut, Champagne, France
50% Pinot Noir, 30% Pinot Meunier, 20% Chardonnay

After years of painstaking work in the region’s vineyards, Emile Paris decided to bottle Champagne under his own name in 1884.  Located in the commune of Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, just outside of Epernay, the Emile Paris brand was built on strict adherence to tradition and quality standards. Nearly 75 years later, it was négociant Patrick Bigar who sought to bring this brand back to life.  Sourcing from the house’s original vineyard sites, which had since been supplying grapes to Champagne monolith Philipponnat, Patrick enlisted the assistance of Gérard Cuperly as head winemaker.  2017 marked the first bottling under the Emile Paris name since 1940.

Toasty brioche aromas lead to a clean, streamlined mid palate with notes of honeycrisp apple, spice and citrus zest.

NP SOMM CLUB

cellars-33-suacci-vineyard-pinot-noir

Red 1 – 2019 Cellars 33 Suacci Vineyard Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast
100% Pinot Noir

Winemaker Notes: Suacci Vineyard is a small (6.5 acres) hillside vineyard tucked away in the rolling hills southwest of Sebastopol, CA.  Due to it's coastal influences from the Pacific, the vineyard receives only a few hours of warming sunlight per day and is therefore, quite difficult to farm. Resulting yields are often unimaginably low - sometimes near one ton per acre - no crop thinning needed! The fruit clusters are insanely small and dark - unlike any other vineyard we have ever worked with.

Aged in 33% new French oak for 14 months. Medium to full body with bright cherry tones, forest floor, rose petals, cherry cola and fig.

Food pairings: Salmon, halibut, pasta bolognese with black truffle
