March 24th- Around the World with Pinot Noir

The most venerated and sought after wines in the world are Pinot Noirs (Burgundies) from France and it's become the most requested red wine since the 2003 movie ‘Sideways’ created a worldwide love affair with Pinot Noir, which prompted serious winemakers around the world to begin making Pinot, as depressed writer Miles from 'Sideways' says, "in these really specific, little, tucked away corners of the world"

So, where are the best places to find Pinot Noir? Burgundy is its homeland and arguably, it's greatest expression. New Zealand, California, Oregon, Chile, Northern Italy, even Spain, and Germany are all producing notable Pinot Noirs. As one of the three grapes allowed in Champagne, Pinot Noir is also responsible for some of the greatest sparkling wines of the world.

If you love a good glass of Pinot Noir, join us to explore the world and find some top expressions of this hauntingly beautiful grape, while also coming to understand what Miles is talking about when he says "...it's thin-skinned, temperamental. It's not a survivor like Cabernet that can thrive even when neglected...it needs constant care and attention...only somebody who really takes the time...to understand its potential..can then coax it into its fullest expression".

Perhaps he's talking about the Pinot grape. Maybe he's talking about himself. Or perchance both. Sign up for Tuesday's class and find out!
